The President Gets his way. So when will the $$$'s start flowing?

The Presidents speech tonight must have given nightmares to the power that be. Not since FDR has a President stood up to the invisible hand that prevents progress. Some have called the package pork and other have said that it will put our children in debt. The President understood that failure to act would have cost the country more money then the total cost of the stimulus package. So what does this have to do with online marketing? The package will bring some great opportunities for online marketers to data mine and search out new clients in many fields. Many Americans will now have some extra spending power and the ability to buy small luxuries like a $5 cup of coffee. We should not forget that the real value of an economy is not in how much people can spend, but how much they can produce. The ability to create industrial capacity. For over 50 years this capacity has declined. We can only hope that in the coming years our industrial and agricultural capacity will increase. If so, we will have more opportunities to find business. Right now business is so tight and so cut throat that you almost have to become a marketing animal to survive.

A Stimulus package for your business

Whether you agree with the stimulus package or not some form of the package will pass. As business owners we need to think about how this helps or hurts our online marketing campaigns.

As online marketers we should be looking to target construction companies and IT companies. We may need to tailor our product and service to gain access to this industry. Keep in mind that construction and IT has been crushed during this down turn. They may not have much cash right now, but when the package passes it will be a major bump to their cash flow. Start to market to them now. They will most likely work with the people that stuck with them through the tough times.

Now McDonald’s did see a 22% year over year drop but that was related to a stronger dollar. The point is that even in this down economy McDonald’s found a way to increase business. McDonald’s launched a pre-emptive strike aimed at Starbucks and hit em were it hurts. The strategy has worked with Starbucks recently announcing that they are closing down stores and laying off workers. Keep in mind that Starbucks also tried to sell food and it flopped. Besides doing a market analysis to find strengths and weaknesses in the market, McDonalds has also turned to online marketing. In 2007 McDonald’s started an online campaign that targeted online gamers. Statistics showed that for every dollar spend about $3 dollars in revenue came back in. This is an amazing number. Almost unbelievable. I guess you won’t know until you start your own online campaign.
